Stocking With Attitude
Hank runs a donkey rescue at the edge of town, a muddy acre with eleven rescued donkeys, one very smug goat and a barn that leans a little more every winter. The donkeys have names like Biscuit, Mabel and Reverend Dan. They have strong opinions about hay, weather and being left out.
On Christmas Eve, he does what he does every year: he hangs eleven small bags from the stable rail and tucks a carrot inside each. This year he adds one more thing. The new stocking is black flannel with a bright star over a stable, silhouettes of a manger scene in glittering tan and leopard spots below, with the words Oh Holy Night in script across the bottom, plus a thick white cuff. He hangs it on a post in the middle of the barn and steps back with his hat in his hands.
At midnight the donkeys gather. Biscuit sniffs the stocking, Mabel studies the star and the goat tries to eat the cuff. Reverend Dan, an elder with a solemn face, stands in front of the stocking and brays softly, as if giving a blessing. Hank stands in the doorway, laughing quietly, and finds that his eyes are wet. He did not expect to feel so much about a sock. If your holiday has a stable, a manger or a patient animal who needs a mention, this black and tan stocking is a worthy keepsake: a double-sided print, a plush white cuff and a hanging loop on medium-weight flannel.
Mantel & Stuffing
Hang it in the quiet corner of the house: the end of the mantel, a barn post, a hall closet door, anywhere the light is low and the mood is gentle. The black flannel lets the star pop and the tan glitter-look spots shimmer as the room moves. The white cuff gives you a bright opening and the loop slips over a hook without a tangle. Fill it with carrots for the animals, a candle for the table, a hand warmer for the walk to church or a note that says peace on earth and good hay. The medium-weight flannel holds a generous load and the double-sided print looks as lovely from the back as the front.
Gift Ideas
Hand it to the neighbor with the backyard chickens who counts the eggs like a bank teller. Give it to the cousin who plays the shepherd in every pageant and has not been recast since the third grade. Slip it to the grandmother who sings the carol at the midnight service in a voice that silences a congregation. They will put it where the whole room can see it. A calm, starry gift for people who find the holidays in the quiet moments and the gentle animals.

Poster/Canvas Care
Care Instructions: Poster
Keep it out of direct sunlight, which fades ink over time. Hang it in a dry room, away from steam and damp. Dust it gently with a soft, dry cloth, and don’t spray or wipe it with liquid. For the longest life, put it under glass in a frame. Handle it by the edges, and store it flat or rolled loosely, never creased.
Care Instructions: Canvas
Keep it out of direct sunlight and away from heat vents and damp rooms. Dust the surface with a soft, dry cloth or a dry brush. Don’t use water, sprays or cleaners on the print. Hang it on a secure wall mount, and avoid pressing on the front of the canvas. If it’s stored, keep it upright and wrapped in a clean cloth, away from anything that could dent the front.
