Snow Globe With Attitude
In Josie's family there is a gift exchange rule: no spending more than twenty dollars. There is also a secret rule: nobody remembers what they bought last year. Which is how, in 2022, Josie received a pink snow globe from her sister Marlene, scattered with red berries, green holly and tiny gold stars, and in 2023 she regifted it to cousin Faye, who in 2024 regifted it to her mother, who this year wrapped it up and gave it to Josie. Josie opened the box, recognized a small scratch on the base and said, very quietly, "It is back."
She did the math. The globe had been through six households, two moves and at least one dog. Nobody had ever objected. Everyone had loved it. It was pink, sparkly and unreasonably cheerful, the kind of gift that makes a person say "oh!" and then hold on to it for exactly eleven months. At the next family dinner Josie placed it in the center of the table. "I would like to make a statement," she said. "This globe has been the best gift in our family for three years, and none of us bought it new." There was a long silence. Marlene admitted she had found it in a drawer.
That is the secret of a good snow globe: it does not wear out. It stays soft, pink and bright, with berries and holly and a snowfall of glitter that never repeats, so it feels new every time somebody shakes it. This one is the right size for a hand, a dresser or a family tradition. Josie has now bought a second one, in case the first is still in transit.
Where It Lives
A dresser is the classic home for a pink dome, because it lives beside the mirror and the jewelry and gets shaken on the way out the door. It works just as well on a bookshelf, a desk, a hallway console or a bedside table, where the pale pink calms the room and the red berries add a pop. The gold stars catch lamplight, so the dome looks like it has its own tiny constellation. It also travels well from house to house, which, if your family regifts, is a real feature. Wipe off the dust, wrap it again and pass it on. Or keep it. It will forgive you.
Gift Ideas
Give it to the sister you have swapped twenty-dollar presents with since 2009. Give it to a young niece who treats anything sparkly like treasure. Give it to the friend whose house is decorated in pink and is not ashamed. If you worry about regifting, include a note that says, "No returns, no regifting, no questions." It will not work. It will, however, make everyone laugh, and the globe will keep going around the family until it becomes a legend.

Poster/Canvas Care
Care Instructions: Poster
Keep it out of direct sunlight, which fades ink over time. Hang it in a dry room, away from steam and damp. Dust it gently with a soft, dry cloth, and don’t spray or wipe it with liquid. For the longest life, put it under glass in a frame. Handle it by the edges, and store it flat or rolled loosely, never creased.
Care Instructions: Canvas
Keep it out of direct sunlight and away from heat vents and damp rooms. Dust the surface with a soft, dry cloth or a dry brush. Don’t use water, sprays or cleaners on the print. Hang it on a secure wall mount, and avoid pressing on the front of the canvas. If it’s stored, keep it upright and wrapped in a clean cloth, away from anything that could dent the front.
