Snow Globe With Attitude
Every Christmas Priscilla's mother-in-law Mildred arrives with a poinsettia in a foil pot and a look of expectation. Every year the poinsettia is dead by New Year's. Priscilla has tried sunlight. She has tried shade. She has tried whispering to it. Mildred keeps count: this will be funeral number nine. So Priscilla did something radical. She bought a snow globe covered in red poinsettias traced with gold on a white ground, dense as a bouquet, and placed it on the sideboard before Mildred arrived.
Mildred walked in, saw the globe and stopped. She looked at it for a long time. "Is it watered?" she asked. "It has its own water," said Priscilla. "Does it need light?" "Only the kind that flatters it." Mildred picked the globe up and shook it, and the glitter swirled over the blooms like a gentle snowfall. "It is doing well," she said. "Better than the last ones." Priscilla, who had been holding herself upright for nine years, nearly cried. Mildred set the globe down and said, "I will bring you another next year." Priscilla said, "Please bring a gift card."
The globe has survived three Christmases, a toddler and a cat. It has never wilted, never dropped a leaf and never inspired a pointed comment. If you love poinsettias but your thumbs have a record, this dome is a safe, cheerful way to keep red and gold on the sideboard all winter. It sparkles when shaken, stays bright when ignored and does not require sunlight, water or the passive-aggressive approval of a mother-in-law. Priscilla says it is the best plant she has ever kept alive.
Where It Lives
A sideboard, mantel or dining table is the natural stage, because red and gold were made for candlelight and white tablecloths. The dome is small enough to sit beside a centerpiece without a fight and bright enough to be noticed from the far end of the table. Near a window the gold edges flash, and near a lamp the whole thing glows. Shake it whenever someone says what a lovely plant. It is not a plant. It is a deception, and a flattering one. Keep it where the lamp can reach it, and the glitter puts on a tiny stage show.
Gift Ideas
Choose it for the daughter-in-law who has buried eight poinsettias and would like to stop. Choose it for the mother-in-law who keeps buying them and needs a gentle redirect. Choose it for the cousin who swears she has a black thumb, not a green one, and means it. Wrap it in foil, the way a poinsettia arrives, for a little theater. When they unwrap it and exhale, you will see the relief. Add a tag reading "Water not required" and enjoy the confusion at the table.

Poster/Canvas Care
Care Instructions: Poster
Keep it out of direct sunlight, which fades ink over time. Hang it in a dry room, away from steam and damp. Dust it gently with a soft, dry cloth, and don’t spray or wipe it with liquid. For the longest life, put it under glass in a frame. Handle it by the edges, and store it flat or rolled loosely, never creased.
Care Instructions: Canvas
Keep it out of direct sunlight and away from heat vents and damp rooms. Dust the surface with a soft, dry cloth or a dry brush. Don’t use water, sprays or cleaners on the print. Hang it on a secure wall mount, and avoid pressing on the front of the canvas. If it’s stored, keep it upright and wrapped in a clean cloth, away from anything that could dent the front.
