Snow Globe With Attitude
Dennis has killed every houseplant he has ever owned, including a cactus, which is a feat of negligence that botanists would study if they knew. His apartment is a graveyard of brown stems and little plastic markers. His mother, who gardens on weekends and for sport, finally gave up on greenery. For Christmas she bought him a snow globe: a dome with a tall green cactus in a fuzzy Santa hat and wound with lights, a banner reading Feliz Navidad, leopard print behind it, and sunflowers and red blooms at its feet.
"It cannot die," she said, handing it over. Dennis examined it for flaws. The cactus smiled in a prickly way. It had no soil, no pot and no watering schedule. It was already in water, which was either a joke or a miracle. He set it on the windowsill and watched it for three days. Nothing wilted. Nothing browned. For the first time in his adult life a plant was thriving in his care. He texted his mother a picture, captioned "Look what I grew." She replied with a heart and a very long pause.
Now Dennis shakes the glitter each morning like a farmer scattering seed. He tells coworkers his cactus is a rescue and that the Santa hat is for morale. It is the first plant he has ever kept alive and the only one that wears a hat. If you love a houseplant that needs no sunlight, soil or apology, this dome is a good start: festive, spiky, bright and entirely forgiving. Dennis says it is the best-behaved thing in his apartment. He has not named it. That is how he plans to avoid the grief.
Where It Lives
Windowsills, naturally. The cactus looks best with daylight pouring through the dome and the glitter flaring like snow in a desert sun. It also suits a desk, where a spiky green character in a hat adds attitude to a long email, and a kitchen shelf where it can supervise the cooking. If your real plants keep dying, set this one in the middle of the herd as a kind of green leader. Shake it for a snow shower that looks funny against all that leopard print and sunflower color, and turn it so Feliz Navidad faces the room.
Gift Ideas
Give it to the plant parent who keeps a spreadsheet of every living thing in the house. Give it to the plant parent who has lost count of the dead ones. Give it to the neighbor from Arizona who says Christmas lacks cacti and will be thrilled by a dome that fixes it. Add a tiny note that says, "No watering required." The note will be funnier than it should be, and the recipient will photograph the cactus and send it to someone they love.

Poster/Canvas Care
Care Instructions: Poster
Keep it out of direct sunlight, which fades ink over time. Hang it in a dry room, away from steam and damp. Dust it gently with a soft, dry cloth, and don’t spray or wipe it with liquid. For the longest life, put it under glass in a frame. Handle it by the edges, and store it flat or rolled loosely, never creased.
Care Instructions: Canvas
Keep it out of direct sunlight and away from heat vents and damp rooms. Dust the surface with a soft, dry cloth or a dry brush. Don’t use water, sprays or cleaners on the print. Hang it on a secure wall mount, and avoid pressing on the front of the canvas. If it’s stored, keep it upright and wrapped in a clean cloth, away from anything that could dent the front.
