The Misfortunes of Cephalus brings Bernardino Luini’s c. 1520–1522 fresco, later transferred to canvas, into the home as a professionally produced stretched canvas reproduction.
About the Artwork
This panel belongs to Luini’s painted cycle of Cephalus and Procris, a myth built from love, suspicion, divine interference, and catastrophic timing. The original measures 176.2 × 107.3 cm and is held by the National Gallery of Art, Washington.
Design & Styling
The vertical composition works as a focused statement piece or as part of a historically minded gallery wall. Warm woods, aged metals, deep neutrals, and restrained modern interiors suit its Renaissance palette.
Print Quality & Materials
Produced on a matte-coated cotton-poly canvas blend over a 0.75-inch sustainably sourced pine stretcher frame. Printed with non-toxic latex and GREENGUARD Gold-certified inks. Hanging hardware and stabilizing rubber dots are included.
Framing & Display
This product is a stretched canvas and does not include a decorative outer frame. It arrives ready to hang with hardware included. Additional framing is optional.
Original vs. Print
This listing is for a modern reproduction, not the original artwork. The original is held by the National Gallery of Art, Washington.

Poster/Canvas Care
Care Instructions: Poster
Keep it out of direct sunlight, which fades ink over time. Hang it in a dry room, away from steam and damp. Dust it gently with a soft, dry cloth, and don’t spray or wipe it with liquid. For the longest life, put it under glass in a frame. Handle it by the edges, and store it flat or rolled loosely, never creased.
Care Instructions: Canvas
Keep it out of direct sunlight and away from heat vents and damp rooms. Dust the surface with a soft, dry cloth or a dry brush. Don’t use water, sprays or cleaners on the print. Hang it on a secure wall mount, and avoid pressing on the front of the canvas. If it’s stored, keep it upright and wrapped in a clean cloth, away from anything that could dent the front.
